为了更好地实施课程标准，培养小学生学习英语的兴趣，促进其心智、情感、心理和精神的高度平衡，我们针对不同年龄段学生的心理和认知特点，编写了这套《小学英语美文诵读》。
丛书从三年级至六年级共4册，每册有诗歌、谜语、童话、故事、名人名言、对话、短文等与小学生的生活息息相关的40篇英语美文，配以精美图画与原汁原味的涌读磁带，便于学生在情境中诵读、熟记。所选材料全部来自英文原版内容，语言现代、地道，内容科学、趣味，学生一定乐读乐诵。通过诵读记忆，文章的语感脉络，英语的词汇、语法和语言的节奏韵律，作者的情感意趣，就会浸润到学生的内心深处。使学生在不知不觉中提高对语言的感受能力。
丛书能够尊重不同阶段小学生阅读兴趣的差异，*大限度地开拓他们的文化视野，潜移默化地进行异国习俗、文化的熏陶、渗透，提高学生跨文化的意识，培养跨文化交际的能力。阅读难度逐册渐增，体现了提高学生语言运用能力的渐行性。三、四年级更多体现趣味性、交际互动性；五、六年级则更多地体现引导性、推断性和使用性。
