《争论中的国际关系理论》自1971年面世以来已经成为当今美国及其他***负盛名的教科书，为几百所大学的国际关系学专业师生所使用。其第2版出版于1981年，并于1987年由邵文光先生译成中文在我国出版；2001年的英文*新版（第5版）出版不久，即再度被翻译成中文《阎学通教授领衔翻译》于2002年在中国出版。
该书使用跨学科的方法，汇集了各个流派、各种研究方法的核心见解，系统评述了国际关系理论中的历次大辩论，并在大量引述学术文献的基础上，对各种相互争论的理论家进行了尽量客观、公平的介绍和评析。此外，该书尽可能地向读者展示的是各种理论的思想根源、发展脉络和理论之间千丝万缕的联系，当然对每一种理论的优劣也作为适应的评估。
该书在我国国际关系学术界中产生了不同于一般学术著作的广泛影响，既是国际关系学引进版教材的开路先锋，也是此类教材中****的佼佼者。现由我社**推出该书第5版的影印版，希望其能够与两个中译本交相辉映，共同为我国国际关系学的教学和科研助一臂之力。
