一、英语阅读作用
(一)增强学生的语感
语感即语言感受力。它是在长期的语言实践中形成的对语言文字敏锐、丰富的感受领悟能力。阅读背诵是培养学生语感*直接的方法。大量阅读,日积月累,语感就慢慢产生了。
(二)扩大英语词汇量
词汇是语言的基本单位。如何记忆单词、扩大词汇量是一件足以让许多学生头疼的事情。很多学生通过背词汇书或字典来记忆单词,但是往往因为其过程十分枯燥而没办法坚持下去。事实上,阅读才是掌握和记忆英语单词的*佳办法。把英语词汇放到一定的语言环境中来学习,通过对上下文以及文章知识文化背景的理解来记忆单词,其效果会事半功倍。
(三)提高英语写作水平
英语写作反映一个人的综合英语学习水平。怎样才能用英语写出好文章呢 ? 除了要打下牢固的语言基础,即一定词汇、语法基础外,大量的阅读也是必不可少的。通过大量阅读,广泛地接触语境材料,可以积累大量优美的词句、格言、警句、固定表达、习惯用语、修辞常识等,将其吸收内化为自己的东西,然后在文章中编码输出。此外,大量的阅读有助于培养英语思维,从而创作优美地道的英文作品
(四)了解西方风俗文化
语言是文化的结晶和载体,要学好英语还要了解英语**的风俗文化。而阅读则是了解西方风俗文化的*佳手段。通过阅读可以了解不同**的历史地理、政治经济、文学哲学、宗教、科技等,从而不仅促进英语语言的学习,还可以增长知识,丰富生活,有助于开拓视野,培养积极乐观的生活态度。
