    1. Vocational Education in China
    Vocational education in China has developed enormously. The earliest vocational education in China may be dated back to the industrial education in the 1860's (some 150 years ago). The main content of vocational education during late Qing Dynasty was to study western technology and give workers with practical training. The "Chinese Vocational Education Society" was founded in 1917. It was the earliest example of cooperation in vocational education by the education sector and the industrial sector in China. However, the development of vocational education in China was slow before 1949.
    During the years since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, vocational education went through a great change and steady development. Since China entered a new historical period of reform and opening to the outside world in 1978, the development ofChinese voeationaledueationhasbeen very fast. In1991, the State Council Passed the "Deeision on Dynamic Development ofVocational and Technical Education." It clearly sets out the objectives for the further development of vocational education in the light of economic and social development in the 1990's in China. In 1993, the CPC Central Committee and the State Council drew up and assed the "Outline on Reform and Development of Education in China." It asks governments at various levels to attach great importance to vocational education, make overall plans, and actively develop education all-around.
    本书是《世纪英语——读写教程》**册的教师用书,供教师参考使用。在编写过程中,我们力求方便教者的教学,改变传统的学生用书与教师用书相分离的做法,有机地把教师用书与学生用书融合在一起,而且将所有的练习与答案都放在一起,从而极大地减少教者的备课量。
    本书第5单元和第10单元为阶段性复习,均为PRETCO B级模拟题,其他单元都由以下模块组成,具体编写原则与使用说明如下:
    1. Warm-up
    每单元开篇有一幅或数幅描绘此单元主要内容场景或语言材料的图片与三个围绕单元主题的问题。建议让学生浏览图片,以讨论问题的方式进入本单元学习,促使其积极参与、开口说英语,以此调动学生学习的主观能动性。
    2. Text Learning
    本册课文篇幅短小,一般不超过350字,在有限的课堂时间内应用整体教学法是完全可行的,建议要求学生在规定的时间内先浏览全文,对整体内容有初步把握之后,再处理操练语言点,这样既能利用课文培养学生的理解能力,又不致因为语言点的讲解而使课文支离破碎;为了便于整体教学,我们根据任务式教学法的理论,每篇课文我们都先给出了问题,让学生带着任务阅读,训练学生迅速寻找所需信息的阅读技能。每篇课文后面,有5道阅读理解选择题,如果学生英语水平较好,建议在教师讲解课文之前让学生自己完成。
