《英语学位论文写作教程》文章节选:
版权页: The dissertation is divided into five chapters. In ChapterOne, we introduce the theoretical background of the presentstudy, present an outline of the aim and objectives of thestudy, and describe the text to be analysed. In Chapter Two,we give a general review of the relevant theoretical conceptsto be followed in the study, with the focus on the notionof the Textual Function, and survey the applications of theTextual Function in discourse analysis as well as its integrationwith translation studies. In Chapter Three, we examine boththe English text and its Chinese translations from the TextualFunctional perspective. In Chapter Four, we compare anddiscuss the English text and its Chinese translations in terms ofthe Textual Function. Finally, in Chapter Five, we summarizethe main findings of the study and put forward somesuggestions for future studies. The literature review in a BA dissertation or an academic paper is partof the secondary research (see Chapter 3), and its purposes include: (1) to show whathas been previously studied in the field and what can be improved or modified, (2) tosummarize other people\'s writings, (3) to define or review definitions and key concepts, and (4) to clear the ground for your own research. If you are familiar with previousstudies in the field, you are likely to see the gaps that need to be filled and opportunitiesfor further studies to be undertaken. Consequently, this is the starting point of yourresearch. If you unable to provide a good review of the literature, this implies that youare not familiar with the research situation or that you are not able to summarize otherpeople\'s research in this area. The literature review section is where the tutor can assesswhether the student has done enough reading of the relevant studies in the field andwhether the student is familiar with the research background and situation.
