本书编著从中学英语教与学的需要出发，将其多年来在教学实践中的积累加以精心整理，广采博纳，逐条查证，编撰成册。本书具有较强的针对性、实践性和适用性，它不仅可用作为广大的中学生学习英语的工具书，同时，亦可作为中学英语教师的教学参考书。
本书从中学英语教与学的实际出发，内容紧跟教材和教学大纲，运用讲练结合的方法，一方面对在大纲范围内的249组易混词语（约800个词语，涉及常用单词1800余个）在意义和用法上的异同点作了详细的分析、比较和归纳，并以例句示范；另一方面，针对各组词的易溻点设置了1500余道练习题，供学习者在学习有关内容之后进行强化练习。
