爱泼斯坦,Israel Epstein, a well-known international journalist,was born in Poland in 1915. He moved to China with his parents in 1917, and started working as a journalist for Peking and Tientsin Times in 1931. He was acquainted with American journalist Edgar Snow from 1933. He began to work as a correspondent for the United Press of the United States in 1937,and joined the China Defense League led by Soong Ching Ling in Hong Kong in 1938. During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression he worked hard to report the heroic struggles of the Chinese Communist Party and the Chinese people to the world. After Japan surrendered, he took an active part in the activities opposing U.S. interference in China internal affairs and publicizing the birth of new China. At the invitation of Soong Ching Ling, he went back to China to participate in the founding of China Reconstructs (later renamed China Today). He took Chinese citizenship in 1957,now is a member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), editor-in-chief emeritus of China Today, vicechairman of China Welfare Institute, vice-chairman of Soong Ching Ling Foundation, honorary president of the China Society for People's Friendship Studies (PFS), and vice-chairman of the International Committee of China Industrial Cooperatives.
